Below is a list of recommended hardware and operating systems for running Focus and/or MatchTracker.
Recommended Hardware
The table below lists the minimum machine spec for each platform, organized by workflow tier - find your typical Focus workflow in the Workflow Tier column, then check the spec for your platform. Newer or higher-spec machines will always work too. For MatchTracker, choose Standard tier or higher.

*The iPad Pro's brighter 120Hz display is noticeably better outdoors and pitch‑side; larger models have bigger batteries and tend to last longer on battery power.
**Nvidia's NVENC hardware encoding gives capture recording much more headroom than the software encoding used otherwise - see the Capture Devices section below for details. AMD Ryzen CPUs are supported when paired with a dedicated Nvidia GPU.
Intel-based Macs remain supported until summer 2027, but are no longer recommended - all recommendations above assume Apple Silicon.
When to Contact Customer Success
Everything above is a generic recommendation for typical use cases. However, Focus can scale much further - recording hundreds of simultaneous video feeds, LIVE sessions with ten or more clients, or up to 5 screens driven from a single device. Contact your Customer Success representative for custom recommendations or if your desired setup includes any of the following:
- LIVE recording of more than 8 feeds.
- LIVE recording and review of multiple 4K feeds.
- Combining 2+ Thunderbolt/USB devices in one LIVE workflow.
- Driving 3 or more screens / video output windows from a single device.
- Unusual or unknown feed sources.
Capture Devices
- For the full list of supported capture devices, see Recommended Hardware to Capture, Record and Re-stream Video.
- Blackmagic capture requires a Thunderbolt connection (Thunderbolt 3/4 or USB4 with Thunderbolt support — not every USB‑C port qualifies).
- To record from a Blackmagic or AJA capture device on Windows, an Nvidia GPU with NVENC support for
H.264 (AVCHD) YUV 4:2:0is strongly recommended - you can check your GPU here. Without one, recording still works using software (CPU) encoding, with noticeably less performance headroom. - Standard IP‑only setups do not need an Nvidia GPU - modern integrated graphics (Intel Iris Xe / Arc or newer) handle viewing and recording IP feeds.
4K Footage
- 4K playback is demanding - follow the Standard tier or higher. Performance depends heavily on the clip's codec and bitrate; high‑bitrate footage is the most demanding case and in some cases might require transcoding before use.
