Issue
A session package shows an "Unable to Play Video File" error when trying to play back media.
Cause
This happens when the video file is no longer in the package's media folder - usually because it was moved, renamed, or deleted after the session was created.
Resolution
There are two ways to fix this, depending on whether you still have the original file and want to keep the package's existing folder structure, or you're fine pointing the package to a new file location.
Option 1: Move the media back into the package folder
Use this option if you know where the original media file currently is and want to restore the package to its original state.
- Open Focus Settings and go to the General tab.
- Find the Session Package Search Path and open it in Finder (Mac) or File Explorer (Windows).
- Locate the session with the issue, then open its media folder.
- Drag and drop the missing media file into this folder.
- The filename must match exactly what the package expects - if it was renamed, rename it back before dragging it in.
- Close and relaunch the session. The video should now play normally.
Option 2: Relink the media from its current location
Use this option if you want to point the package directly to wherever the file lives now, without moving it.
- In the video player, click the relink icon (usually a broken-link or refresh icon shown over the missing media thumbnail).
- In the Finder/File Explorer window that opens, navigate to the media file and select Open.
- The media should now appear and play correctly in the package.
Important: once relinked, the media file must stay in this exact location. If it's moved or renamed again, you'll see the same error and need to repeat this process.
