Focus 10 is our biggest under-the-hood upgrade in years, bringing a refreshed interface, smoother video playback on a wider range of hardware, and much faster exports in Presentations.
Important Information
- macOS Tahoe is now supported. Focus now supports macOS Tahoe, Sequoia and Sonoma. Older versions may encounter issues or be unable to install future updates.
- Intel Mac support ending. Focus versions released after summer 2027 will require an Apple silicon chip on Mac.
- Updated hardware specs. Alongside this release, we've updated our Recommended Hardware Specs article — worth a look if you're planning new hardware.
Presentations Video Export Improvements
- Added a "Fast Export" option to Presentations. The new option copies the source video snippet directly for tags with no annotations or overlays, producing exports much faster than the standard exporter. For 10 minutes of 720p/60 fps footage, typical export times are:
- ~2 seconds on Apple silicon MacBook Pros.
- ~4 seconds on Windows laptops equipped with modern dedicated NVIDIA GPUs or Intel iGPUs.
- The total time required to complete transcoded Presentations exports has been reduced by up to ~55%, depending on hardware — with the largest gains on Apple silicon Macs.
- Transcoded Presentations exports can now follow the Presentation's folder structure, either combining clips into a single video file per folder or exporting them as separate files organised by folder.
- Video exports no longer lock up the UI, so you can keep working while an export runs. Note that overall app performance may be slightly reduced during export.
- Added a right-click "Export" option for clips in both folder and row views in Presentations. This action performs the export with the last-used configuration.
Improved Video Handling
- Added support for additional hardware-accelerated video decoders — Intel QSV, Vulkan, Direct3D 11 / DXVA2 — alongside existing CUDA support.
- Hardware-accelerated video decoding now works on Apple silicon Macs for all files when "Prefer Hardware Accelerated Decoding" is enabled.
- Improved video playback performance of H.265 video.
- Added support for AV1 video.
Other Improvements and Bug Fixes
- Added native Metal rendering on macOS.
- Focus now automatically uses the dedicated GPU on Windows if available.
- Improved performance of perspective-projected annotations during video playback.
- In Presentations, you can now type a character in font and other selection dropdowns to jump to a matching entry (e.g. press "G" to jump to Gothic Sans).
- Hub Presentations can now be launched via deeplink, and deeplink support for Hub Sessions has been improved.
- Fixed: "Run on Import" toggle remaining enabled after switching from football to another sport, causing clips to run on import unexpectedly.
- Fixed: Memory leak during non-transcoded video exports that could exhaust system memory.
- Fixed: Notes overlay incorrectly shifting position when the control panel appears.
- Fixed: Annotation position cascading away from the source location when pasted onto a new clip instead of matching it.
- Fixed: Duplicate timestamped log subfolders being created for a single Focus Server / iOS startup.
- Fixed: Automatic log cleanup skipping new timestamped subfolders, leaving old logs behind.
- Fixed: Duplicate entries appearing in the Presentation Loading dialog when the list re-sorted while open.
- Fixed: Player icon selector capturing keyboard focus, preventing hotkeys such as Escape from working during creation mode.
- Fixed: Malformed (duplicated) input source IDs in re-published Hub Sessions that could cause package clone and upload failures.
- Fixed: Player text and metric offsets positioned incorrectly along the length of the pitch for projected annotations.
